SEX, DRUGS BUT NOT MUCH ROCK’N’ROLL: 20 BRIEF LIFE STORIES

£5 each to order including postage.                                                                           Editor: Diane Taylor                                                                                                              A Mainliners Publication 2004

Mainliners decided to start profiling drug users and sex workers in a bid to redress the erroneous and over whelming negative view of them. Their voices are rarely heard above the clamour of disapproval about their lifestyles. Since the beginning of 2001, Mainliners has been recording the life stories of drug users and sex workers and now we have collated them all together into this short book.

The life stories which follow roundly disprove the myth that only a certain kind of person from a certain kind of background gets involved in problematic drug use.

Although these stories reflect an enormous diversity of human experience some common threads have emerged. None of those telling the story of their life seemed particularly happy about their drug use.

“Living With More Than Hepatitis C: A Study of Hepatitis C and Discrimination”

Author: Maud Blair and Joanna Blair                                                                                  A Mainliners Publication 2004                                                                                            £5 To Order

Researches discrimination to individuals infected with hepatitis C in order to inform policy and strategy. Examines the extent, target and impact of such discrimination. Reviews the availability of support for individuals and the responsiveness of local services to their needs. Perpetual discrimination and stigma were observed as a result of infection with hepatitis C infection in addition to discrimination and stigma in terms of injecting drug use as a transmission route. The study identifies that a) hepatitis C infection in itself and b) injecting drug use as a transmission route both lead to gross injustices, insurance, mortgages and employment discrimination
